Movement Description

Duration: November 2025–Ongoing as of January 2026

On November 1, 2024, a canopy at a train station collapsed, killing 16 people and injuring others. What began as vigils evolved into protests led largely by Serbian Gen Z youth calling out against government corruption. Protests were massive in scale, with multiple demonstrations exceeding 100,000 people, and given their size, were widely peaceful. Serbian government officials, including the Serbian president, made inflammatory comments about protesters, and supporters of the president’s party were reported attacking demonstrators on several occasions. The protests continue as of early 2026 as demonstrators call for the resignation of the incumbent government.
