Movement Description

Duration: May–June 2025

The circulation of social media posts depicting the lavish lifestyle of the son of Mongolia’s prime minister triggered outrage among Mongolian Gen Z youth in 2025. The outcry came after years of corruption scandals, including Mongolian officials embezzling $12.8B in coal exports in 2022. Demonstrators mobilized in Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar, calling for the prime minister’s resignation. After peaceful protests and collecting 60,000 signatures through an online petition, Mongolia’s national legislative body held a vote of confidence concerning the prime minister, leading to the leader’s ousting.
