Mexico
Protests erupted after the cartel-linked killing of a local mayor, drawing demonstrators into the streets to demand stronger public safety measures and accountability.
Duration: November–December 2025
Protests in Mexico were sparked following the cartel-led killing of the mayor of a west-central Mexican city. Demonstrations were held in Mexico City decrying crime in the nation and calling for increased public safety measures. Officials and some media outlets questioned the authenticity of the protests because of the prevalence of older demonstrators, support from prominent right-wing billionaires and political figures, and antisemitic graffiti written on buildings during protests. Thousands of demonstrators protested in November 2025 and were met with police firing tear gas. The Mexican government made no concessions to the protesters’ demands.
Physical Force
Police used tear gas and direct force against demonstrators during protest activity.
Mass Arrests
At least 20 people were arrested during the demonstrations and related public unrest.
