The #EndSARS movement began in 2020 to protest police brutality committed by the specialized police unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), in Nigeria. Demonstrations were crushed by police and military violence that led to disputed figures of people killed by security forces, with leaked reports suggesting 56 people were killed, though accurate numbers have not been confirmed.
