Movement Description

Duration: September–October 2025

The deaths of eight women during childbirth catalyzed Gen Z-led protests in 2025 speaking out against government spending and economic inequality. Supporting the protests was the development of a Discord server called “GenZ 212” that had over 250,000 members discussing social issues and coordinating in-person protests. Demonstrations were held across Morocco with instances of rioting reported and hundreds of protesters arrested. Responding to the protests, the Moroccan government allocated $15B to support healthcare and education and also committed to creating 27,000 public sector jobs and introduced reform to allow people younger than 35 to run for office.
